Ground-breaking The First Step For Veterans Memorial

ABC News Coverage

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — War veterans in San Francisco will soon have a memorial in their honor. Eighty-two years ago, there was a plan to build a memorial for San Francisco’s veterans, but money and other priorities got in the way. Now, an octagon of stone will soon rise on the courtyard of green between the War Memorial Opera House and the Veterans Building.

“Veterans in San Francisco have long been neglected; it’s a very important part of history and now we’ll have a monument to honor them,” retired U.S. Air Force Col. Roger Dong said.

Who graduates on April Fool’s Day? Improv students – we step into the unknown and trust we’ll figure it out – together. When we do – Magic happens.

We would love for you to join us as we graduate from being a Theater Games workshop to being an improvisational performance ensemble.  We want to share the fun we’ve been having, learning to be players in this freeing, transformational art form and are inviting folks we know, to be our supportive audience. You may also be interested to see for yourself what kinds of crazy things we do. It’s entertaining, fun and goes beyond comedy “improv.”

The NEXT Stage is directed by Marcia Kimmell.  She draws techniques from various sources, her training with Viola Spolin at the Second City in Chicago being most influential.

NEXT Stage Workshops:

  • Theater Games Intensive, Berkeley Saturday, April 6
  • Beginning Theater Games, 8 weeks, San Francisco Thursday Evenings
