Warrior Writers, August 29 & 31, 6-8pm, VCMC

Come and share your stories in an open accepting environment. Warrior Writers is a creative community for Veterans to write and share their experiences in the military as a Veterans. In the workshop Veterans write under prompts, and create a community with the possibility of publishing and performing works.

Workshops for Veterans or any service member regardless of experiences with writing, combat, art, deployment, etc.

Video Update: CCSF Accreditation Forum 2013

CCSF Accreditation Forum:  organized by the Veterans Community Media Center, assisted by Da Maddhouze from KCSF Radio “Your community, your radio!”

We were fortunate to have such an outstanding, experienced and well informed group of people on the panel to help us contemplate and better understand the mounting issues around revoking accreditation from City College of San Francisco.

  • Michael Stoll Panel Moderator, Michael is a journalist, media critic and journalism educator. He is executive director of the San Francisco Public Press, a public interest news project and publication.
  • Sherae Honeycutt Sherae studied and worked as journalist at CCSF for a year. She made the video What if City College Closed? with IDTV in the CCSF Broadcast Department. She also worked at the award-winning CCSF  Etc Magazine and works with the radio station KCSF.
  • Aundray Rogers Aundray is a veteran and President of the CCSF Veterans Alliance. The Veterans Alliance is “working to streamline attaining benefits as well as getting more benefits extended like travel, education and housing with no cost to veterans.” CCSF Veterans Service Office
  • Angela Hart Angela was in the Army Reserve from 1999-2008, and was deployed from 2003 through 2004 in Northern Iraq. She was in the 341st Military Police Company out of San Jose. She is a print and multimedia journalist covering the environment, health care, and politics. She is a CCSF Journalism alumnus.  
  • Alex Emslie Alex was the Editor-in-Chief at the CCSF newspaper The Guardsman for more than a year. He has published in the San Francisco Chronicle, Huffington Post, San Francisco Bay Guardian, New America Media, and more. He has written extensively about the CCSF issues. In November he published in the San Francisco State University newspaper, “Student veterans face unique challenges transitioning to college.”
  • Alisa Messer  Alisa is the faculty union president of City College’s local AFT 2121, the American Federation of Teachers. Local 2121 is the City College Faculty Union who has been working to respond to the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) requirements which began the possibility of closure and suspension of accreditation. Alisa is an English teacher at CCSF.

It’s our open house with introductions,  tours of the new facility, American Legion Post 315’s installation of officers, an art exhibit by the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of the US Veterans Artist Alliance, refreshments and more.
